Oscar Wilde is reminding us that the things we usually call “wealth” money, possessions, status can disappear. A job can end, a house can be damaged, someone can take credit for your work, trends can change overnight. But your deeper riches are different: your kindness, courage, imagination, wisdom, humor, memories, and capacity to love. Those live inside you. Life can shake your circumstances, but it can’t easily steal the person you’ve become through what you’ve learned and survived. It’s a comforting thought, especially in uncertain times: the most valuable parts of you don’t sit in a bank account or on a shelf. They travel with you, quietly and faithfully, wherever you go.
