B. B. King once ran back into a burning building to rescue his guitar, which he named Lucille after learning that a fight over a woman by that name had started the fire. Born Riley B. King to a sharecropping family in Mississippi, he became a radio disc jockey in Memphis before rising to fame as a blues singer and guitarist. His expressive guitar playing, marked by a distinctive vibrato, influenced generations of musicians. He toured widely and brought the blues to a global audience, with songs including his signature hit The Thrill Is Gone.
