Seneca

Lucius Annaeus Seneca (c. 4 BCE, 65 CE) was a Roman Stoic philosopher, statesman, dramatist, and tutor to the emperor Nero, born in Corduba in Roman Spain and educated in Rome. He became one of antiquity’s most influential moral writers, known for works like Letters from a Stoic and essays on anger, mercy, and the shortness of life. Seneca is most remembered for making Stoicism practical teaching that virtue, self-control, and inner resilience matter more than wealth or status. Having endured exile, court intrigue, and ultimately a forced suicide under Nero, he knew firsthand why “difficulties strengthen the mind, as labor does the body.”
